Hematite is an iron oxide with a metallic luster, ranging in color from silver-gray to black. Because of its red abrasive dust, it is also called "bloodstone." It is heavy and often feels cool on the skin.
It is mined worldwide, including in Brazil and Great Britain. Hematite has a strong grounding and protective effect. It is used to promote blood formation and regeneration, as well as to relieve anxiety. It is a classic stone for the root chakra.
